NBL Quick Hits 2009 – Week 2

September 11, 2009

As if you couldn’t tell it by the sound of my voice, its getting late and I need to get to the bed, but before I do, here is the latest audio from the Naked Bootleg. Eric is out getting lost in rural Pennsylvania in a cargo van so I’ve been left in charge.

Tonight was spent procrastinating with regards to the podcast and also watching the hot and cold game that was the 2009 Georgia Tech / Clemson contest. Tech should consider themselves luck to escape with the win, and the score of the game told none of the story about the back and forth momentum of the contest.

Quick Hits – Ohio and Washington

June 3, 2009

It’s two for the price of one in this episode of Quick Hits. We are taking a look at two teams that struggled pretty badly last season in their respective conferences, the Ohio Bobcats and the Washington Huskies.  Ohio has not made near the amount of progress that I would have hoped they would towards returning to the kind of temporary success we saw in the 2006 season. Washington, on the other hand, looks like a brand new program, and that is because it is.  New coaches, new systems, new player, a quarterback with a new thumb…well, maybe not a new thumb, but certainly a healed one. It’s starting to come together for some. Not so much for others.

Quick Hits – Miami

May 28, 2009

As we stay down in the ACC, we take a look at another team that seems like it has faced setback anfter setback in recent years, the Miami Hurricanes.  Coach Randy Shannon seems to know what he is doing though, and a group of players being stared in the face every day by so many national championships, are through with mediocrity. So how has this football team formed coming out of spring practice, and how competitive will they be in the ACC this coming season?

Quick Hits – Florida State

May 27, 2009

Bowden’s Boys…but for how much longer? With Jimbo Fisher waiting in the wings, will another scandle, or worse…a par level season propel him upwards even faster? Well, we are not really going to debate that here. Other blog sites are eating this up, but it is all speculation. What is not speculation is how the Florida State Seminoles have pulled together an offense that can certainly hold their own. What else is not speculation at this point, for me at least, is that fact that they still need so big help on defense.

Quick Hits – New Mexico

May 26, 2009

And we’re back on a Randy-heavy schedule. While Eric’s away, Randy will play and he’s got a long list of teams he’ll be bringing you throughout the week. First up is the University of New Mexico.

With a new Alpha Wolf in town by the name of Mike Locksley, the Lobos are poised to rise to the top of the Mountain West, but not before going through some growing pains first. The biggest problem the Lobos will face isn’t their new coaching staff or even their opponents this season. With so little returning talent, New Mexico fans might have a long season to weather before discovering how great an acquisition Locksley is.

Quick Hits – Purdue

May 21, 2009

Wow! I must say that I’m pretty impressed with what I am seeing out in West LaFayette, Indiana. Could it be that new head coach Danny Hope may be just what the Boilermakers need to get things back on track? There are a number of vacancies that have to be filled, especially at the offensive skill positions, but things should be looking up for Purdue fans.

Quick Hits – California

May 19, 2009

Whatever will they do now that Tightwad Hill is gone? Buy a ticket of course, and it may just be worth it as Cal is looking pretty well coming out of spring. Still a number of things to work on, but coach Jeff Tedford seems pretty happy with the progress of his team. I have some doubts, but not many.

Quick Hits – North Carolina

May 19, 2009

What a difference a year makes. Coach Butch Davis seems to be making his mark on this Tarheel program. New coaches, a motivated team, and a lot of talent in place. The sky is the limit as Davis attempts to continue the transformation at Chapel Hill.

Quick Hits – Wisconsin

May 18, 2009

Give us some hope here! Last season was a brutal disappointment for Badgers fans…and for Randy and I, as we actually picked them to take their conference last season. This year, there are still a number of questions coming out of spring, but alas…there is some hope!

Quick Hits – North Carolina State

May 16, 2009

It is a beautiful Saturday afternoon…warm, the sun is out…what a great day to be outside. Unless you are Eric, who has taken this opportunity to deliver to you his insight into this year’s North Carolina State Wolfpack team. And what well spent time it has been.
